Car accidents happen every day, multiple times a day. Many of these are very minor. They may include someone backing into a pole or one car bumping another in a parking lot.

Then, there are also very serious accidents that occur. These cause injuries and significant property damage. WSR Insurance explains there are a few very common accidents that often result in serious consequences: crossing the center line, single-vehicle and rear end.

Crossing the center line

Accidents resulting from crossing the center line usually happen because a driver is not paying attention or is unable to properly control his or her vehicle. The most common causes are distracted driving and driving under the influence. However, a medical emergency, mechanical breakdown or loss of control due to a slippery roadway could also cause this type of accident.

This type of accident may also happen when a driver purposely crosses the center line to pass another vehicle. If the driver does not assure he or she has a clear line of sight and checks properly for oncoming traffic, then an accident can easily result.

Single-vehicle

Single-vehicle accidents are usually due to driver error. They could result from a mechanical issue or inability to control the vehicle due to bad weather. They may occur because of distracted driving or driving under the influence.

Rear end

Rear end accidents happen when drivers do not pay attention to the traffic flow ahead of them or when they follow too closely. In many cases, the main cause is the driver behind the leading vehicle cannot stop on time to avoid a collision. These accidents may also occur as a result of slippery road conditions or distracted driving.
